Exclusive Properties at Coulscott

Coulscott has been inhabited for over a thousand years. Set in a secluded wooded valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a very short distance from the Exmoor National Park and close to the spectacular North Devon Coast, it has the appearance of a small private hamlet.

There are just five letting properties. Two are wings of the old Coulscott farmhouse; one medieval and one Georgian. The others are converted farm buildings set around a courtyard. There are no other houses within a quarter of a mile.

Good sleep is essential to a relaxing holiday. All beds in Coulscott have pocket sprung mattresses with Memory Foam.  The beds are big too. All the double beds are king-sized or bigger. We also understand the importance of spotlessly clean properties provided with crisp sheets and lots of good quality towels.

A freezer full of local home cooked meals is usually available.  Please click here for a sample menu.

Coulscott has a full-sized indoor pool open all year round. Two properties each have their own sheltered outdoor hot-tubs. There is a children’s play area including a large climbing frame with swings and a big trampoline. Coulscott is set in 16 acres, much of it open to guests. It has woodland, streams and a pond and is home to badgers, foxes, buzzards, owls and much more wildlife. Sheep and cows graze the surrounding steep meadows that shelter it on three sides. Down the valley are lovely views over rolling fields and woods with scarcely a building in sight.

The village of Combe Martin is less than mile away winding down its valley to a pretty sheltered beach. It has all the shops pubs and other facilities you are likely to need. Further afield is a supermarket that will deliver. Combe Martin has a rich history and has been famous for its silver mines and strawberry fields. It has an ancient yearly ritual, “the hunting of the Earl of Rone” and a lively annual Carnival.

Exmoor, with England’s highest cliffs, its seacoves and many lovely walks is very close and still relatively undiscovered.  Its moors are cut by steep wooded coombes including the famous Doone Valley. It is littered with prehistoric remains, ancient churches and unspoiled villages.

Wonderful massive beaches are not much further, from trendy surfing Croyde

and mile-long Woolacombe Sands to Saunton  Sands bordered by its vast nature reserve.

North Devon has plenty of commercial attractions when you tire of nature, the closest being Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park. There are excellent riding stables nearby. There are to be found golf courses for all abilities, boat trips, sailing, fishing, surfing, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, markets, craft centers and just about anything you could imagine.

Come to Coulscott. Relax and forget for a while the cares of urban life.
